Ehindero latest; another =N=200 million intercepted

An attempt by the immediate past Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero to move large sums of money out of Abuja was frustrated by a team of policemen outside Abuja city gate who were conducting a random “stop ‘n search” action. It was unclear whether his successor, Mike Okiro was aware of the movement of the cash and had therefore set-up the police team to catch the former IG.

Since taking over as IG Mike Okiro had made uncomplimentary remarks about the former IG.

The large sums of money was an assortment of foreign currencies which the former IG was said to have received as the payment for his role in rigging the last April 2007 elections from various political candidates. The cash was being transported enroute to his country home in Oka-Akoko , Ondo State by road.

A source told Saharareporters that the cash was being transported by policemen to his hometown, but the stop and search team decided to stop the team regardless of their status.

There are no official reactions from the police hierarchy about the seizure, calls made to the police PRO, Haz Iwendi was not returned as at the time of publishing this report.
