What would you like for weather today, Sir?

My StumbleUpon Page

What would you like for weather today, Sir?

There are various methods used to control our weather in western Nations, unknown to us, in our so-called democracy! Last winter, it almost didn't snow in the East coast, and everyone realised the graveness of global warming, till some mysterious snow storms suddenly came that way. These storms are most evidently manipulative storms created by the weather diversion and manipulation methods below.

Many NGOs are observing this and complaining about it, but no legislature is in place in the US for instance, and nothing is done against this very serious issue of intentional weather manipualtion..

Last year for instance, high pressure domes created, doppler radar and other methods were possibly used to drive severe hurricanes away from landing on the US, hence we can easily imagine that the US hurricanes were diverted to unfortunate neighboring Nations, and much greater permanent consequences of weather tampering were created.

"..Fitrakis: We are at least supposed to live in a democracy and this stuff is all being done secretly. It's also being done without environmental impact statements and if the government is developing military warfare systems to dominate the globe through full spectrum dominance. We need to know, that's a policy decision. We need to know if we're moving toward a Roman style imperial world conquest and what's that going to cost and what's that going to cost to our health? What's that going to cost to our neighbors and our children.

One symptom of this Roman style imperial conquest is the domination of clear blue sky worldwide mainly over North America, Australia, Great Britain and Europe. As a result, each year less light reaches the surface of the Earth. Truly clear blue skies have been a rare sight as persistent contrails from aircraft exhaust and NATO aerosol programs have virtually dimmed incoming sunlight.

Tens of thousands have documented this airborne spraying. To be clear we're not talking about the normal condensation contrails that quickly disperse. And not the normal contrails that sometimes persist in the sky, because of one or more variables such as temperature difference, the change from JP-4 to JP10 aircraft fuel or design styles of jet engines..."
in the United States in the middle nineties and as more money has come into this project and the weather has gotten more severe, you see more and more planes active, especially ahead of a front.

This attempt to steer jet streams and large storms works in conjunction with HAARP and chemtrail marking. "HAARP" "High-frequency Active Auroral Research Project". An array of antennas located 200 miles northeast of Anchorage, Alaska. 360 towers, 72 feet high that direct high-frequency rays into the ionosphere.

Researchers say this focused energy will lift an area of the ionosphere miles into space, where then a vacuum is created and filled in by surrounding atmosphere. This can not only change weather say researchers but HAARP also has the power to create storm-related catastrophes, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. In terms of moving storm fronts, scientists can monitor by weather satellite where the jet aircraft are marking aerosol trails and direct energy beams to nudge the storm front. Jerry Smith author of the recently published book, Weather Warfare says a combination is also at work. Doppler radar and HAARP are used together to influence weather..

"... Smith: There is evidence that Doppler radar does not merely illuminate clouds but actually affects the charges of clouds and that by how you stroke the clouds with radars is one way that you can manipulate and massage a storm front. Now, it looks like HAARP is being used to pull Arctic air down and the Dopplers are being used to drive moist air up. This produces storm fronts. With storm fronts you can drive temperatures down.

Smith says the process can be reversed in the summer so that cold air is pushed further north. This is civilian weather modification of which many benefit including heating oil companies says Smith. He says with this technology, high pressure zones can be maneuvered into place with large scale effect.

Smith: Another aspect of this is the hurricanes. There's evidence that an artificial high pressure was created during the 2006 hurricane season. So as to be a force field if you will, to keep the hurricanes from making landfall. If you noticed, not one hurricane made landfall in the US, compared to 2005 when an unprecedented number of hurricanes succeeded in making landfall.

Can't you just hear the butler to the English gentleman:I think you'll look just great in that new blazer Sir and I've made sure the weather will be just right for it!

I just love these guys!

How to write about Africa

My StumbleUpon Page

How to write about Africa

Among your characters you must always include The Starving African, who wanders the refugee camp nearly naked, and waits for the benevolence of the West. Her children have flies on their eyelids and pot bellies, and her breasts are flat and empty. She must look utterly helpless. She can have no past, no history; such diversions ruin the dramatic moment. Moans are good. She must never say anything about herself in the dialogue except to speak of her (unspeakable) suffering. Also be sure to include a warm and motherly woman who has a rolling laugh and who is concerned for your well-being. Just call her Mama. Her children are all delinquent. These characters should buzz around your main hero, making him look good. Your hero can teach them, bathe them, feed them; he carries lots of babies and has seen Death. Your hero is you (if reportage), or a beautiful, tragic international celebrity/aristocrat who now cares for animals (if fiction).

Bad Western characters may include children of Tory cabinet ministers, Afrikaners, employees of the World Bank. When talking about exploitation by foreigners mention the Chinese and Indian traders. Blame the West for Africa's situation. But do not be too specific.

Broad brushstrokes throughout are good. Avoid having the African characters laugh, or struggle to educate their kids, or just make do in mundane circumstances. Have them illuminate something about Europe or America in Africa. African characters should be colourful, exotic, larger than life—but empty inside, with no dialogue, no conflicts or resolutions in their stories, no depth or quirks to confuse the cause.

Describe, in detail, naked breasts (young, old, conservative, recently raped, big, small) or mutilated genitals, or enhanced genitals. Or any kind of genitals. And dead bodies. Or, better, naked dead bodies. And especially rotting naked dead bodies. Remember, any work you submit in which people look filthy and miserable will be referred to as the 'real Africa', and you want that on your dust jacket. Do not feel queasy about this: you are trying to help them to get aid from the West. The biggest taboo in writing about Africa is to describe or show dead or suffering white people.

Animals, on the other hand, must be treated as well rounded, complex characters. They speak (or grunt while tossing their manes proudly) and have names, ambitions and desires. They also have family values: see how lions teach their children? Elephants are caring, and are good feminists or dignified patriarchs. So are gorillas. Never, ever say anything negative about an elephant or a gorilla. Elephants may attack people's property, destroy their crops, and even kill them. Always take the side of the elephant. Big cats have public-school accents. Hyenas are fair game and have vaguely Middle Eastern accents. Any short Africans who live in the jungle or desert may be portrayed with good humour (unless they are in conflict with an elephant or chimpanzee or gorilla, in which case they are pure evil).

After celebrity activists and aid workers, conservationists are Africa's most important people. Do not offend them. You need them to invite you to their 30,000-acre game ranch or 'conservation area', and this is the only way you will get to interview the celebrity activist. Often a book cover with a heroic-looking conservationist on it works magic for sales. Anybody white, tanned and wearing khaki who once had a pet antelope or a farm is a conservationist, one who is preserving Africa's rich heritage. When interviewing him or her, do not ask how much funding they have; do not ask how much money they make off their game. Never ask how much they pay their employees.

Readers will be put off if you don't mention the light in Africa. And sunsets, the African sunset is a must. It is always big and red. There is always a big sky. Wide empty spaces and game are critical—Africa is the Land of Wide Empty Spaces. When writing about the plight of flora and fauna, make sure you mention that Africa is overpopulated. When your main character is in a desert or jungle living with indigenous peoples (anybody short) it is okay to mention that Africa has been severely depopulated by Aids and War (use caps).

You'll also need a nightclub called Tropicana, where mercenaries, evil nouveau riche Africans and prostitutes and guerrillas and expats hang out.

Always end your book with Nelson Mandela saying something about rainbows or renaissances. Because you care.

... and what is she looking at?(!)

Who was ex-President Obasanjo's father?

The man in picture A ( picture A is the one on the left and on the right is President Obasanjo actual photograph), The Nation explained, was an Igbo who lived in the Abeokuta area in the 1930s, about the time Obasanjo was born. According to The Nation, the police officer later became a monarch on a prominent South-Eastern throne. Before then, however, he had interacted fruitfully with the local community and had a brief affair with an Owu lady, before his final exit from the South-West.

Though the newspaper did not say more than that, it left little to the imagination. Whatever innuendo was left of the brewing Obasanjo paternity controversy was blown open the next day by the Abuja-based Leadership newspaper via a damning column tagged Olusegun Igbochukwu Obasanjo, authored by Sam Nda-Isaiah. Using the pictures supplied by The Nation as the fodder of his write-up, the columnist released the bombshell. “The editors of The Nation didn’t want to say much, and they have left us to our imagination, but it won’t be from me that you will hear that Obasanjo’s father was Igwe Onyejekwe, a top ranking police officer who became the Igwe of Onitsha in his lifetime. During his controversial reign, the throne was in contention between him and Igwe Okosi II, just as it is today between Igwe Achebe and Igwe Odukwe,” Nda-Isaiah wrote.

Not done with Obasanjo, the columnist went for the kill: “Igwe Onyejekwe, Obasanjo’s daddy, died after the civil war and, like his son, was said to be very cantankerous and quarrelsome.”

The columnist intoned that the circumstances of his birth and rejection would have helped make the former president a very bitter and wicked person. He implored Nigerians never to make anyone their leader except they know where he is coming from. “And Nigerians really saw that proverbial wickedness in the last eight years. It is a very wicked man that would increase the price of a litre of fuel by a whopping N10 on his way out of power, simply because he has a pecuniary interest in refineries he had just sold away. It is also a very bad and wicked president that would double the value of VAT on his way out. What does it cost to be nice and kind and empathetic? Nothing! But that’s for normal people. And Obasanjo is far from being normal.”

Closing on a comical note, the columnist advised that since Obasanjo loves power so much and is a prince of Onitsha, ‘‘can’t we just simply crown him the Igwe so that he can leave us alone?’’

But can it be true? Is Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the Balogun of Owu in Egbaland, be the biological son of Igwe Joseph Okwudili Onyejekwe, the Obi Onitsha Ado N’Idu from 1962-1970? Onyejekwe ascended the coveted throne after the demise of Igwe James Okosi who ruled from 1931-1935. His enthronement came after the report of the famous W.R. Harding Commission, which resolved disputes among the contenders for the throne.

If the answers are in the affirmative, does that mean that the Igbo have accidentally taken their eight years ration at the presidency and the Yoruba have not?

Oba Isaac Adeyemi Ojelade- Badegunle 1, the Onibogun of Ibogunland, Obasanjo’s reputed maternal hometown, says the rumour peddlers are either callous or are just doing it out of idleness. “It is a big lie, it is nothing but rumours. Obasanjo is a typical Abeokuta man and his father was a pure Egba man from Owu with three facial marks on each side of his cheeks. As a matter of fact, his father came from Abule Elere to Ibogun. They are from Agbole-Olusomi in Abeokuta and I come from his mother’s lineage,” the nonagenarian told TheNEWS.

And on page 84 of the 253-page biography titled: Olusegun Obasanjo in The Eyes Of Time- A Biography of the African Statesman, Onukaba Adinoyi-Ojo, making reference to Obasanjo’s paternity, wrote: “A little over a year after Ashabi’s (Obasanjo’s mother) death, Amos Adigun Obasanjo Bankole passed away following a brief illness. He was buried at Onigbedu where he had remained till the very end. At 22, just when a smile was perching on his face, Olusegun Obasanjo became an orphan.”

But the rumour peddlers are far from being convinced. In Onitsha the popular story is that Obasanjo is the product of a romantic liaison between Igwe Onyejekwe and Ashabi, Obasanjo’s mother, in the 1930s. As the story goes, the Onitsha prince jettisoned the idea of taking Ashabi as wife because doing so would hurt his chances of ascending the throne.

Another source told the magazine in Onitsha that Onyejekwe actually issued a recommendation that facilitated Obasanjo’s enlistment into the Nigerian Army in 1958. However, in Adinoyi-Ojo’s book there is no mention of Obasanjo requiring recommendation from anyone to join the Army.

Yet the proponents of Obasanjo’s Igboship point to a statement credited to him (Obasanjo) during a working visit to Anambra State as confirmation of their claim. Obasanjo had reportedly told an audience in Awka that any of his children is qualified to govern Anambra State. Though the statement was brushed aside then as a gibberish political talk, it has become invaluable with the advantage of hindsight. Whatever anyone chooses to believe, indications are that the rumour mill will remain in overdrive for some time.

Stealing with Integrity

No fewer than 10 houses have been traced to immediate past Inspector General of Police Mr Sunday Ehindero, all reportedly built during his two years as top cop.

Ehindero, who gave the police a new motto: "To serve and protect with integrity," ran into trouble last week, after some of his former aides were arrested as they were attempting to smuggle over N21 million cash out of the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, in Abuja.

As Ehindero is being probed following the orders of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Daily Sun has been able to locate the palatial mansions he reportedly built in Abuja, Ondo and Lagos States.

The most imposing of the mansions was found opposite Sunview Hotel, Alagbaka quarters in Akure. He also reportedly built another exquisite block of flats situated along Oda Road in the town.
Investigations further revealed that the former IGP built a house similar to that on Oda Road at Oyin Akoko and made sure the road leading to the house was tarred.
Other property in Ondo include blocks of hostel in Akungba, which he let out to students of the Adekunle Ajasin University.

In Abuja, Ehindero is said to have built a mansion at Gaduwa Estate, Constitution Crescent and has one under construction at Wuye.
Ehindero’s houses in Lagos are situated at the Ekoro area of Abule Egba and Ajah, where he had built an expansive school for the wife.
Meanwhile, detectives at the ‘D’ Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja told Daily Sun that Interim Investigation has been completed and a report is being compiled.
Daily Sun also learnt that the Commissioner of Police in charge of Budget, Mr John Obaniyi who had sent his aides to fetched the over N21 million, which he claimed was for Ehindero, had kept the money in his office toilet and inside a television set.

On the heels of the scam, an independent survey has again confirmed the Nigeria Police as the most corrupt institution in the country.
Closely following the police is the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Education Ministry (particularly higher institutions and examination bodies) and the customs service.
The survey also listed the Health Ministry, Justice Ministry, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Nigeria Railway Corporation and Agricultural Development Authorities as institutions least likely to collect bribe.

Another lunatic in Government House?

Governor T. A. Orji at Ekeneshi shrine?

My StumbleUpon Page

Another lunatic in Government House?

Theodore Orji sat with rapt attention. He smiled from time to time. Clearly, he was the man of the moment. Fresh off the hook of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which accused him of being the conduit through which Abia State had been defrauded in the last eight years, he basked in the euphoria of the day. When Orji Kalu, the then governor of the state whom he served as chief of staff, mounted the rostrum and tried to defuse some misgivings that the new governor would not be his own man, Orji could not but laugh.

In no time, Orji was called to come and take the oath of office as the governor of Abia State, some minutes after Chris Akoma, his deputy, had taken his. The day was May 29, 2007. He swore to defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and that his loyalty would be to no one but Nigeria. His inaugural speech left those present with the impression that the messiah was here. And to cap it all, he asked God to help him.

Unknown to many at the inauguration, however, their new governor had, five months earlier, specifically in January, sold his soul to the devil, all in a bid to be governor. He agreed to a fetish oath instigated by Kalu, the state’s immediate past governor and his political godfather. Facts at the disposal of the magazine indicate that Orji was taken to Eketenshi Shrine at Igbere, Kalu’s village, located in Bende Local Government area of the state, and made to swear to an oath of allegiance. Sheepishly, he sold Abia State and its people to Kalu, who told the audience tongue-in-cheek, while handing over to Orji, that “I have no control of the state henceforth. I hand you over and leave you to your conscience.”

That was months after Benedict Meregini, the chief priest of the shrine and chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, in Abia State, and Chris Osuagwu, who was Kalu’s commissioner for public utilities from 2004 to 2007, ensured that Orji, clad in only his underpants, observed the oath-taking to the letter. Meregini, a former staff of Tabs Assurance Limited, gave Orji some concoction to drink. It is believed that if Orji should betray his former boss, he would die. Amazingly, Orji was bound hand and feet while going through the rituals. The chains, according to people who understand the implications, symbolised subjugation of the new governor to the direct control of the Kalu dynasty.

Osuagwu, who was also the chairman of Reality Organisation Worldwide, an organisation run by Eunice Kalu, aka Mother Excellency, Kalu’s mother, did all within his power to see to it that in the event that Orji, a 1977 graduate of the University of Ibadan, goes against the kernel of the oath, there would be evidence to make him toe the line. So, Osuagwu ensured Orji’s session at the shrine was video-recorded and, at a point, when the new Abia governor appeared to be hiding his face, Osuagwu walked up to the platform to raise his head. Indeed, the plan is that, should Orji want to assert himself in power, and fail to resign at the appropriate time as has been earlier agreed upon, his undated resignation letter and the other details of his sordid ritual undertakings would be made public. That, in the reckoning of former Governor Kalu and Mother Excellency, would thoroughly embarrass and disgrace him out of office.

What's with this Orji name? Remember the name Clifford Orji? All flipping lunatics!

Breaking News

(top) Reinstated governor Obi (bottom) Andy Uba ex-presidential Labrador, domestic assistant and rogue governor; booted out of government house.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

The Supreme Court of Nigeria in an historic and landmark unanimous decision has asked newly (s)elected governor of Anambra State and ex-President Obasanjo's favorite Labrador and ladies man, Andy Uba, to vacate the Government House, Awka immediately as the past incumbent governor, Mr. Peter Obi has not finished his term of office.

It would be recalled that Mr Obi who is of the APGA party upon being rigged out of that office in 2003, by the ruling PDP party, had approached the courts for a settlement of his grievances. The courts later reinstalled him as Governor of Anambra State after a prolonged battle that ate deep into his tenure of office. He returned to the courts to protest this injustice and seek tenure elongation in fulfillment of his mandate.

Today that history was written large on the pages of Nigeria's political annals. Peter Obi will now complete his tenure as the governor of Anambra State while Mr. Andy Uba, erstwhile household assistant, ladies man and favorite Labrador to former President Obasanjo will vacate power immediately since Peter Obi is entitled to stay in office till May 17, 2010.

The Supreme Court judgement was read by Justice Katsina Alau in a unanimous decision where all the seven members agreed without dissent. There is wild jubilation across Nigeria, as its most controversial governor, Andy Uba, is kicked out of office.

Background

Gov. Peter Obi (born July 19, 1961) was governor of Anambra State in Nigeria from March 17, 2006 to November 3, 2006 and again from February 9, 2007 to May 29, 2007. He is a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) party.

He replaced Former Gov. Chris Ngige, whose 2003 election victory was overturned by the Nigerian Federal Court of Appeal on March 15, 2006.

On November 2, 2006, Gov. Obi was impeached by 16 members of the state house of assembly after 7 months in office. He was replaced the next day by Dame Virginia Etiaba, his deputy, making her the first ever female Governor in Nigeria's history.

Peter Obi was re-instated as the Governor of Anambra State again on February 9, 2007 by the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu. Mrs. Virgy Etiaba honourably handed the reins of power back to Mr Obi immediately after the court ruling. To my friend and brother, I say worthy, worthy you for a fight well fought and as we bring out the crystal glasses, my toast is; one big one down, eleven more to go!

Flying at half mast

Hanging on the side, off a wall!

My StumbleUpon Page

Flying at half mast

"America no longer builds or seeks to compete in a world-marketplace where creativity or freedom can be tolerated. We no longer compete for success-today we simply kill or steal it. Our citizens have become sheep that shall soon become even less, because too many have refused to fight those that have truly come to kill us. The enemy we need to fear is here, and the threat to all Americans increases daily."

The truth is we are no longer a Republic. The United States of America has been taken over by the corporations and by their insatiable greed for profits. The American public opted out of that discussion and has begun their own private descent into the horrors of wage-slavery that will end when the sharks run out of companies to buy or other nations to suppress: If you doubt this, just look at the maps for all those places we have selected for 'Regime Change.' It's a long list and every one of those targeted nations has major deposits of oil. In Iraq alone there is $21 Trillion worth of oil under their sand-and we've promised the oil companies that we're not leaving without it. When our political puppets made that promise, most likely in those secret meetings that Cheney held in his offices back in January of 2001 while creating America's energy polices: From that day, this nation has become an Outlaw Regime, and in the interim we have finally become the leading Rogue-State in the world today.

This all happened because too few questioned those myths by which we have lived. Our national history is a lie: because the truth and all its attendant crimes have been suppressed. We did not bring Democracy & Freedom to the more than 50 nations that we overthrew: we brought them tyranny, corruption, chaos and murder-but we brought them these "gifts" in the guise of Freedom & Democracy. So many nations contain the horror-stories of invasions by the United States, and the dark memories that we left them with, long after our appetites for their natural resources were used up or forcibly removed.

We have the world's largest nuclear arsenal, the same with Weapons-of-Mass-Destruction, and we now have one of the most unbalanced leaders that the world has ever seen. We and Israel, our barbaric and principal partner in these crimes, have become the major threat to world peace and stability. Yet it is we who continue to call for 'Regime-Change' in country after country: We who continue to threaten and invade other nations. It is we who continue to defy the United Nations and the global community of nations. We do this in the name of promoting 'universal peace and democracy,' and the only ones who believe that lie are those who spread it.

The myth is and was that we are 'fighting to protect America and Americans around the world.' The fact is we are using mercenary forces in conjunction with the US military and taxpayer dollars to suppress liberty and freedom in the name of corporate theft and greed the world over.

All of this fit nicely within that plan for the inside job that was the crime of 911. That was a major crime that we allowed this government to immediately brand, within 33 minutes after the explosions, as an attack by a hostile power without even considering any other possibility: Yet even as the evidence was being assembled and hauled away to finish off the cover-up, the United States was launching our first attacks on Afghanistan, and the rest is 'history.'

That's where we've been going during these New Dark Ages of the Old World Order under 'The Decider.' What is fast approaching is a widening and possibly irreversible 'next step.' This was announced yesterday by Senator Joseph Lieberman, a self-declared Independent who in reality speaks for Dick Cheney in this case. Lieberman said that 'we must threaten Iran with air strikes and military reprisals for training Iraqi's and for supplying weapons that are killing Americans in Iraq.' Apparently the Senator is unaware that: "IRAN has threatened to launch a missile blitz against the Gulf states and plunge the entire Middle East into war if America attacks its nuclear facilities.

Admiral Ali Shamkhani, a senior defense adviser to the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned that Gulf States providing the US with military cooperation would be the key targets of a barrage of ballistic missiles.

Shamkhani told the US journal Defense News that missiles would be launched not only at US military bases but also at strategic targets such as oil refineries and power stations."

Salad and Contracts

President Obasanjo's last week in office and the award of $20 billion contracts to unnamed entities.

At the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on 16 May, presided over by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, then President, there was an announcement of the award of contracts worth N176 billion. Obasanjo, who announced the contracts, was then 13 days away from quitting office, after spending two terms of four years each. Obasanjo told the council that the contracts became necessary to provide infrastructure across the nation’s six geo-political zones. The former President, this magazine gathered, simply presented the proposal and it was approved without a dissenting voice. Briefing newsmen after the meeting, Frank Nweke, then Minister of Information, said N70 billion was earmarked for the revival of textile industries across the nation. The sum of N58.6 billion was approved for the construction of the second Niger Bridge, while N42 billion was earmarked for the maintenance of the projects after completion. Curiously, Nweke refused to name the firms to handle the contracts.

Earlier, on 9 May, FEC had approved N16.53 billion for the reconstruction of port harbours in Lagos. Obasanjo also approved the expansion of the airport at the cost of N20 billion. The Abeokuta-Otta road also received presidential attention. Though TheNEWS could not ascertain the worth of the contract, Julius Berger, the firm handling the project, has since started work. Another N4.8 billion was earmarked for the building of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) permanent accommodation; and N1.39 billion for the Ministry of Defence to construct a permanent residence for participants of War College Training Course in Abuja. FEC also allocated N1.4 billion for the conversion of steam and head for the various power plants, while N233 million was set aside for the rehabilitation of the Agege-Lagos Road.

Aside this, N47.4 billion was approved for the conversion of the Alaoji Power Plant to double circuit; and N3.5 billion for the purchase and maintenance of two boilers at the Egbin Power Station in Lagos. Obasanjo’s decision to delay the award of these contracts till the dying days of his administration has spawned a series of questions and suspicions. Many have questioned his motives for awarding such meaty contracts when he was on his last lap. The Lagos-Otta Road contract is widely seen as a self-serving exercise since the highway leads to his farm in Otta, Ogun State.

The failure of the government to announce the names of companies to handle the contracts has also fuelled speculations that some powerful individuals in the Obasanjo administration might have used some fronts to corner the contracts. There were also allegations that the former president might have dipped his hand into the Federation Account to execute these projects, even when it is clear that the account belongs not only to the federal government, but also to state and local governments. Besides, the projects were said not to have been appropriated for in the annual budget. Obasanjo’s actions drew the ire of the last Senate. Professor Daniel Saror, former Minority Leader of the Senate, accused the former President of infidelity in the award of the contracts. "Obasanjo was dipping his hand into the Federation Account to execute many projects, including the power stations in the Niger Delta. Billions of dollars are being spent on those projects without the approval of the relevant agencies. No senator can exercise oversight function over them because nobody at the National Assembly knows about the contracts and the companies handling them. Senator Farouk Bello Bunza had tried to draw the attention of the Senate to this anomaly, but the PDP senators shot his motion down," Saror said.

As Senators struggled to unravel the exact number of contracts awarded from the Federation Account, the federal government stung them again. This time, Malam Muhammad Habibu Aliyu, then Minister of State for Water Transportation, without recourse to the FEC, announced the award of $140 million worth of contracts for the protection of the Lagos coastline. Aliyu, apparently speaking on behalf of the Federal Government, added that Obasanjo approved N2.3 billion for the construction of a river port in Lokoja. But the minister neither named the contractor nor the source of the money.

The Ehindero Saga Update

Ehindero latest; another =N=200 million intercepted

An attempt by the immediate past Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero to move large sums of money out of Abuja was frustrated by a team of policemen outside Abuja city gate who were conducting a random “stop ‘n search” action. It was unclear whether his successor, Mike Okiro was aware of the movement of the cash and had therefore set-up the police team to catch the former IG.

Since taking over as IG Mike Okiro had made uncomplimentary remarks about the former IG.

The large sums of money was an assortment of foreign currencies which the former IG was said to have received as the payment for his role in rigging the last April 2007 elections from various political candidates. The cash was being transported enroute to his country home in Oka-Akoko , Ondo State by road.

A source told Saharareporters that the cash was being transported by policemen to his hometown, but the stop and search team decided to stop the team regardless of their status.

There are no official reactions from the police hierarchy about the seizure, calls made to the police PRO, Haz Iwendi was not returned as at the time of publishing this report.

Nigeria's Senate President;; a brief history

My StumbleUpon Page

Nigeria's Senate President; a brief history

Investigations by Saharareporters have uncovered questionable deals involving David Alechenu Bonaventure Mark, a retired army general who was on June 5, 2007 chosen as President of the Nigerian Senate. Mark’s election to head the upper legislative chamber made him the third most powerful Nigerian in the current political order.

As Nigeria’s Minister for Communications in the 1980s, David Mark acquired a reputation for speaking in a gruff manner. His most notorious gaffe was a statement that telephones were not meant for poor Nigerians. The statement was in response to criticism of the scarcity of telephone lines as well as their high cost.

The first of the deals that catapulted David Mark into questionable wealth came from a $77 million “telecommunications deal” which he brokered while he was Communications Minister under General Babangida. The gist was that Mark procured aircrafts for the nation’s telephone company- NITEL- at highly inflated prices. Mark made an instant profit of $70 million which he shared with President Ibrahim Babangida in accounts opened in Jersey and Cayman Islands. From this single deal, David Mark had set aside the sum of £6 million in a “trust” for his children as well as invested in real estate for his numerous wives and children in the UK and Ireland. In a remarkable, if curious, decision, Mark also invested the sum of £5.9 million in the 18-hole St. Margaret’s Golf Club near Dublin, just a five- minute drive from the International Airport in Dublin, Ireland...

He was one of the key figures who prevailed on Babangida to annul the elections of June 12, 1993. That annulment scuttled Nigeria’s effort to embark on a credible democratic path. Mark and General Dogonyaro were among then serving officers who threatened to kill the president-elect, Chief M. K.O Abiola, if the military head handed over power to him.

In 2006, Mark emerged as an arrowhead of senators who supported a controversial constitutional amendment that would have seen President Obasanjo run for a third-term in office. The campaign was marked by massive corruption. The presidency handed fifty million naira to each senator who agreed to vote for the reprehensible amendment. Though the measure was defeated in the National Assembly, David Mark never gave up. He was quoted as saying that only retired military officers should be voted to power in Nigeria saying that "A sergeant in the army is better than a graduate".

Records available to Saharareporters indicate that, in 1996, Mark took up Belizean citizenship when his investments in that small island nation were threatened. Mark and his now estranged wife, Victoria Preye, as well as two of their younger kids still carry Belizean passports.

Further, he disclosed an earned income abroad of £45,000 a year, whilst his Nigerian income as a senator was put at £1,636 per year, clearly a lie told to British authorities. His disclosure demonstrated that he operated his English bank accounts throughout the period.

Billy Tauzin is unnamed Law maker in Jefferson's indictment

Former Rep. Billy Tauzin (R-La.) is the unnamed lawmaker mentioned in the Department of Justice's indictment of Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.), according to a document obtained by The Hill.

Last week, Jefferson was indicted by the Justice Department for allegedly soliciting bribes in order to wield influence on several companies’ behalf, including iGate Inc., a Louisville, Ky., telecommunications company. As part of his suspected influence-peddling, Jefferson convinced a previously unnamed lawmaker to write an October 2002 letter to iGate’s chief executive, Vernon Jackson, and speak highly of his company’s technology.

Tauzin is the member referenced in Jefferson’s indictment. A copy of his letter to iGate was obtained by The Hill.

“To the best of my knowledge, this letter has nothing to do with the investigation. He is not a target,” said Ken Johnson, a former spokesman for Tauzin’s old panel, the House Energy and Commerce Committee. “Jefferson did ask for it, but it was principally a staff-driven letter.”

A long-time aide to Tauzin, Johnson now works with the former lawmaker at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

Tauzin is the trade group’s president and CEO while Johnson is a senior vice president.

When all that glitters may not be gold

"It is in the hope that others may see the fallacy of this purported way
to holiness that I tell a little of what I know. Although there are
relatively few tempted to join Mother Teresa's congregation of sisters,
there are many who generously have supported her work because they do not
realize how her twisted premises strangle efforts to alleviate misery.
Unaware that most of the donations sit unused in her bank accounts, they
too are deceived into thinking they are helping the poor.

"As a Missionary of Charity, I was assigned to record donations and write
the thank-you letters. The money arrived at a frantic rate. The mail
carrier often delivered the letters in sacks. We wrote receipts for
checks of $50,000 and more on a regular basis. Sometimes a donor would
call up and ask if we had received his check, expecting us to remember it
readily because it was so large. How could we say that we could not
recall it because we had received so many that were even larger?

"When Mother spoke publicly, she never asked for money, but she did
encourage people to make sacrifices for the poor, to "give until it
hurts." Many people did - and they gave it to her. We received touching
letters from people, sometimes apparently poor themselves, who were
making sacrifices to send us a little money for the starving people in
Africa, the flood victims in Bangladesh, or the poor children in India.
Most of the money sat in our bank accounts.

"The flood of donations was considered to be a sign of God's approval of
Mother Teresa's congregation. We were told by our superiors that we
received more gifts than other religious congregations because God was
pleased with Mother, and because the Missionaries of Charity were the
sisters who were faithful to the true spirit of religious life.

"Most of the sisters had no idea how much money the congregation was
amassing. After all, we were taught not to collect anything. One summer
the sisters living on the outskirts of Rome were given more crates of
tomatoes than they could distribute. None of their neighbors wanted them
because the crop had been so prolific that year. The sisters decided to
can the tomatoes rather than let them spoil, but when Mother found out
what they had done she was very displeased. Storing things showed lack of
trust in Divine Providence.

"The donations rolled in and were deposited in the bank, but they had no
effect on our ascetic lives and very little effect on the lives of the
poor we were trying to help. We lived a simple life, bare of all
superfluities. We had three sets of clothes, which we mended until the
material was too rotten to patch anymore. We washed our own clothes by
hand. The never-ending piles of sheets and towels from our night shelter
for the homeless we washed by hand, too. Our bathing was accomplished
with only one bucket of water. Dental and medical checkups were seen as
an unnecessary luxury.

"Mother was very concerned that we preserve our spirit of poverty.
Spending money would destroy that poverty. She seemed obsessed with using
only the simplest of means for our work. Was this in the best interests
of the people we were trying to help, or were we in fact using them as a
tool to advance our own "sanctity?" In Haiti, to keep the spirit of
poverty, the sisters reused needles until they became blunt. Seeing the
pain caused by the blunt needles, some of the volunteers offered to
procure more needles, but the sisters refused.

"For years I had to write thousands of letters to donors, telling them
that their entire gift would be used to bring God's loving compassion to
the poorest of the poor. I was able to keep my complaining conscience in
check because we had been taught that the Holy Spirit was guiding Mother.
To doubt her was a sign that we were lacking in trust and, even worse,
guilty of the sin of pride. I shelved my objections and hoped that one
day I would understand why Mother wanted to gather so much money, when
she herself had taught us that even storing tomato sauce showed lack of
trust in Divine Providence."

Nigeria's flawed elections good business

My StumbleUpon Page

Nigeria's flawed elections good business for Washington Lobbyists

The Democratic consultant who brought Silicon Valley strategy to Howard Dean’s 2004 White House bid exported his brand of high-tech campaign tactics to Nigeria during the run-up to the country’s April presidential election.

Joe Trippi, currently advising former Sen. John Edwards’s (D-N.C.) 2008 campaign, designed a text-messaging campaign for opposition Action Congress Party candidate and then Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

“What drove me on this one was the need for an opposition party. Democracy has only been there for eight years,” Trippi said.

He was just one of many Washington consultants and lobbyists hired by Nigerian politicians to meet with policymakers here or campaign across the Atlantic. Abubakar and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, through the West African country’s government, each spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in the months preceding the vote on such services.

Obasanjo fought successfully to secure victory for his successor in the governing People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Umaru Yar’Adua. Yesterday in Nigeria, power was handed over to the new president.

The director of African Studies at Johns Hopkins’s School of Advanced International Studies, Peter Lewis, said the feud between onetime allies Abubakar and Obasanjo had been “brewing ... for several years and exploded into the open during the last 12 months.”

“The malpractices were carried out in an absolutely brazen fashion,” Lewis, an international observer for Nigeria’s April polling, said of the election. “While there certainly was misconduct by all parties, the main source of the misconduct was the ruling party.”

Goodworks was Obasanjo’s main U.S. lobbying group during the last year. The firm has taken in $500,000 since April 2006 from the government of Nigeria, according to the most recent records filed with the Justice Department.

Cooper said his firm avoided the politics back in Nigeria: “Frankly, we could not afford to get caught up in the internal strife.” Instead, Goodworks highlighted the former president’s economic reforms and his fight against corruption, and “promote[d] the democratic election in Nigeria.”

The firm helped to organize meetings and calls with American policymakers for the heads of two Nigerian government agencies that were thorns in Abubakar’s side.

In May 2006, Goodworks organized an itinerary for Nigeria’s chairman of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) to discuss his country’s “efforts in voter education and registration” with the Carter Center, the National Democratic Institute, the International Republican Institute and State Department officials.

All have been heavily critical of last month’s elections, run by the INEC. The agency banned Abubakar from running, citing corruption charges, before the courts reinstated him.

Goodworks also helped to draft congressional testimony last May for the executive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Cooper called the EFCC’s work an example of Obasanjo’s battle against corruption.

At center of picture is Justice R.D.Mohammed who is presiding Judge in the matter between Amaechi Vs INEC, PDP, Omehia. A day after his the ruling for stay of proceedings in the matter, he was in PH with Dr. and Justice Odili for the Valedictory speech of Gov. Odili.

What on earth were they all thinking? Without a doubt, wouldn't Dr. and Justice Odili be considered interested parties to that case? For the same reason that it would be considered unethical for Justice Odili to preside over Amaechi's matter at the Court of Appeal is the same reason that it would appear to be unethical for Justice Mohammed to attend her husband's party. And considering how Odili has been rooting for Omehia to please 'Baba'? What is their relationship? Well, all I can say is whatever it is, it reeks of Ghana-must-go.

And then this

Dateline: Port Harcourt, May 26, 2007. A grand valedictory party was organised in honour of Dr. Peter Odili, a man who had for eight years governed Rivers State and in the process emerged as the political leader of the oil-rich state. With his wide political contacts which made him a front-runner for the presidency last December, it was expected that a send-forth party for Odili would attract the who-is-who in the country. However, the occassion witnessed a group of unexpected dignitaries- justices of the nation's highest court, the Supreme Court. The judges were led by the otherwise recluse Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi. Kutigi's two predecessors, retired Justices Muhammadu Uwais and Alfa Modibbo Belgore were also there. Though many may not see anything untoward in the presence of their lordships at such a gathering particularly since the wife of the man being celebrated is a Justice of the Court of Appeal, but when you view the nature of the party, the calling of the man being celebrated and what later happened, you will see that the justices probably should simply have sent their best wishes to Odili and his wife and not physically exposed themselves to such an obviously partisan gathering.
As expected, their lordships were seated at an elevated part of the hall. And in that hall were so many people, most of them members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Then, in his address to the gathering, Odili announced that he was handing over the governance of River State to a competent successor. And the hall erupted in applause. As if it was planned, the TV camera panned to their lordships and they were caught clapping like the partisans acknowledging the departing governor's praise for the in-coming governor, Chief Celestine Omehia. This scenario would make more meaning if one realises that Omehia's election is currently being challenged at the Supreme Court by Chief Rotimi Amechi, former speaker of the state House of Assembly who believes his removal as PDP gubernatorial candidate was improper-Culled from ThisDay newspaper, Monday, 11 June 2007

The former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, yesterday when a police commissioner and others were arrested with millions of naira in a luggage. Apart from confirming the scandal, the new police hierarchy led by Mr. Mike Okiro, also ordered the detention of the police officer and other aides of the former IGP arrested in connection with the loot.

P.M.News investigations revealed that the drama started when a police aide of Ehindero was arrested when he went into the IGP’s office and brought out a travel bag said to belong to Ehindero.

The new IGP, Mike Okiro, who was in the office at the time, was said to have ordered that the bag be searched.

On searching the bag, millions of naira in both local and foreign currencies, worth N27 million, were allegedly found in it.

On interrogation, the aide confessed to Okiro that it was Ehindero who asked him to bring the bag and that the money belonged to the former police boss.

The arrested aide also reportedly identified other police officers keeping various sums of police money in their offices.

This revelation led to the arrest of the Commissioner of Police in charge of Budget, Mr. Sunday Obaniyi, who was reportedly found stuffing millions of naira in local and foreign notes worth N200 million into a box in his office.

Obaniyi allegedly confessed during interrogation that the money belonged to Ehindero and he was immediately taken to Okiro who ordered his detention.

Those arrested are currently being detained on the 7th floor of the Louis Edet Police Headquarters in Abuja.

Jefferson: FBI gave me the money

My StumbleUpon Page

Con-man Jefferson: FBI gave me the money to entrap Atiku

Embattled United States Congressman, Rep William Jefferson told journalists yesterday that the $90,000 found in his residence was given to him by the United State's Federal Bureau of Invest-igations (FBI) to pass on to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Speaking shortly after he pleaded not guilty to charges of bribery and corruption leveled against him by a Grand Jury in Alexandria, Virginia, Jefferson said his failure to do so had put paid to the agency's plan.
"Did I bribe a foreign official? Absolutely not. The $90,000 was FBIs money. The FBI gave it to me as part of the plan; part of their plan that I would give it to the Nigerian Vice President. But I did not do that," he said.
Jefferson who was indicted Monday on 16 criminal counts including racketeering, soliciting bribes, wire fraud, money-laundering, obstruction of justice, conspiracy and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act put up a stout defense saying he was innocent.
AP quotes him as saying: “I am absolutely innocent of the charges that have been leveled against me…. I'm going to fight my heart out to clear my name.”
US viewers were inundated with television pictures of a visibly shaken Jefferson and his lawyers heading in and out of the courts to clear his name. But this is the beginning of what may yet be another long battle to convince judges that he was not guilty of charges leveled against him, after a two-year investigation into his business dealings in several African countries including Nigeria.
A federal judge has frozen Jefferson’s accounts and he was ordered to surrender his passports. His movements were also restricted to Louisiana and the Washington D.C. area. Any international travels would require an app-roval. He is not allowed to keep shotguns and rifles in his Louisiana home alt-hough he claims they were for hunting.
If convicted, Jefferson could face a maximum sentence of 235 years. He was released on a $100,000 unsecured bond.
Jefferson was re-elected to the House last year in spite of the investigations. He has however resigned from the House Small Business Commi-ttee following his indictment Monday.
Meanwhile, the House Ethics Committee has voted to expand its investigation of the case to include all the subjects in the 16 count indictment. The trial will commence on January 16, 2008.

Atiku: I was a victim of 419

My StumbleUpon Page

The Jefferson Saga: Atiku says "I was a victim of 419"

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, said yesterday that he was a victim of a 419 scam in the controversial United States Congressman Williams Jeffer-son saga.
Atiku, who was reacting to THISDAY story on the US Grand Jury report on the congressman, said the report of the jury showed that he was an innocent public official who, in the discharge of his functions, was exposed to a conman who dropped his name to swindle unsuspecting businessmen.
Speaking through his campaign organisation in a statement issued in Abuja, the former vice president denied that he agreed to take Jefferson's bribe to influence any business transaction in Nigeria. He described the report as "untrue and mischievous".
But Lagos lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), and the President of West Africa Bar Association (WABA), Mr. Femi Falana, said it was clear from the indictment of Jefferson in the American court that Atiku "definitely" has a case to answer.
The Convener of United Action for Democracy (CUAD), Mr. Bamidele Aturu, and another lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo, however disagreed with Fawehinmi and Falana, saying Nigerians should not jump into conclusion yet over the issue.

In the statement issued by his campaign organisation yesterday, the former vice president was also unhappy that the THISDAY report suggested that he would have been prosecuted in the US save for the fact that he was a foreign citizen.
He said the war against graft and related financial crimes was a borderless one, stating that he would have been prosecuted wherever he may be.
The former vice president said the story was a "doctored and falsely reported conclusions of the US Grand Jury Report."
"I have said for the umpteenth time that in my brief meeting with Congressman Jefferson, I neither solicited nor did the US lawmaker offer me any material inducement for any assistance in respect of his business dealings in Nigeria.
"The Grand Jury report cited by a national newspaper in its highly libelous publication yesterday contained only an allegation by Jefferson that I had agreed to a share of the profit from his communications business in return for some assistance. This is totally untrue.
"Congressman Jefferson has proved to be a conman who tried to use my name to milk his business partners of thousands of dollars he purportedly paid to Nigerian officials as bribes", Atiku said.
In his view, the report of the Jury clearly shows that he (Atiku) is an innocent public official who in the discharge of his functions was exposed to a conman who continuously dropped his name before unsuspecting businessmen to swindle them.
"In the Nigerian parlance, Atiku was a victim of a 419 scam whose name was dropped by the 419ner to swindle unsuspecting businessmen," he said.
Atiku said the story which he described as part of a sustained but vain attempt to smear his integrity "not only failed to take cognizance of the import of the 94-page report of the American Jury on the Jefferson saga, it was also a condemnable selective reporting that stands logic and evidence on its heads to satisfy the malicious intentions of its sponsors."
According to him, the report of the US Jury, states "on or about July 18, 2005, following the meeting with Nigerian official A, Defendant Jefferson and CW traveled from Potomac, Maryland, to Mclean Virginia where Defendant Jefferson, informed CW (co-operating witness), that, during his private meeting with Nigerian official A, Defendant Jefferson had offered, and Nigerian Official A had agreed to accept, a bribe in the form of a percentage of the profits generated by the Nigerian Joint Venture in exchange for Nigerian official A's official assistance in securing necessary approvals from NITEL."
He further explained that the conclusion of the jury was based on the taped conversation between Jefferson and the businessman he was persuading to part with money as bribe allegedly meant for him (Atiku).
He decried the omission of the second leg of Jefferson's claim "which hard evidence eventually proved Jefferson as dropping his name to swindle the businessman who was accompanied by FBI operatives disguised as his company."
"Congressman Jefferson had sought and collected $100,000 from the same 'businessman' on the pretext that he was taking it to Atiku Abubakar. He also reported to the businessman on tape on August 1, 2005 that he had given the $100,000 to Vice President Abubakar," he said.
That claim, Atiku continued, informed the search on the house of his wife on August 3, 2005 during which the money was not found. The former vice president, however, added that when FBI searched the house of Jefferson on August 3, 2005, $90,000 of the marked $100,000 was found secretly stashed in $10,000 parcels, wrapped in aluminium foil and hidden in the food freezer by Congressman Jefferson.

So, Mr Con-man Jefferson what was the marked money, and that which you already claimed had been passed on to Atiku, still doing in your possession?

I beg to disagree

“One of the servants sitting down on the bed of his one room apartment. You can see the entire apartment in this shot.”

I can see the entire tiny room but an apartment, hell No! Do you see a bed? Methinks, I can only see one flattened mattress and a few scruffy looking clothes. I can also see one tired, scared looking boy terrified to death. Emaciated and severely depressed, cowering in a corner. What I don't get is why this poor kid's picture had to make the presidential album? Come to think of it, he gets to share space with the likes of Bill Clinton and George Bush or doesn't he? And what's with this "one of our servants... " stuff? I would be ashamed of anyone whose domestic help looked like that! The picture of that boy tells a deep story that goes to the root of the malaise Nigeria is afflicted with; a malaise that flows forth from the kind of leaders that can reduce youths to the type on showing here, courtesy Dare Obasanjo... and please put some drapes on that window!
